“Only connect.” — E. M. Forster

E. M. Forster, by Dora Carrington

Fondly remembering one of my favorite writers and the great impact he has had upon my life and my love of literature. I have spent many happy hours of armchair travel through my beloved Italy as I turned the pages of Forster’s novels. And his Aspects of the Novel helped to open my eyes, just a wee bit, into the vast territory I was entering when I began my novel last year — not as a reader now, but as a craftsman. Grateful for the gift of the life of this amazingly talented man who wrote with such discernment and wit about the relationships between human beings.

“Only a writer who has a sense of evil can make goodness readable.” — E. M. Forster
